adapters 4

Hey well wadayer know it worked maybe im not that thick after all. Took her out round the Mendips today with Andy, the trails were pretty muddy after all that snow but we actually managed to get up Puky climb and Silent hill for the first time in weeks, thatl show the forestry commision! they seem to be doing their best to try and stop us riding by making a real mess of the trails, even the public bridleways dont seem to be immune, still I suppose if your caught riding off piste at least you can use the blocked bridleways as an excuse! i will try to blog on a bit more regular basis now that Ive found that you can find this blog on tinternet if you use the right search engine {not mozilla firefox}, so bye for now.

adapters 2

Ebay! what a wonderful thing, ive just managed to buy a lovely shiny new disc for the Kona so now shes on the trail again. First ride was on the quantocks in a bit of snow, the forks worked very well and the new disc has made a massive difference to my stopping distance! I guess that means I can ride even faster know that I can stop quicker. This ride was the Annual Christmas ride which turned out to be more of a short excursion than an epic alldayer, this was all due to house moves, [Darron] new bathroom,[me] sick wife[Andy], sick wife 2[me] and various other things getting in the way.

adapters

hey chainreaction cycles to the rescue! ive just received my adaptor for my new fork. Ive got two discs one 6inch and one 8inch so I ordered the 8inch adapter, it cant hurt to have a bigger anchor to throw overboard when things are getting lairy! So I bolted it on ,bolted on the caliper slipped in the wheel and hey presto the disc is in the caliper by about a quarter of an inch! Turns out its a 7 inch disc not 8. Well at least when the new 8inch disc ive just ordered arrives Ill have something big and shiny on my bike. I think on thursday night Ill admit defeat, leave the Kona in the garage and take out the PlanetX, funny this bike never seems to give me any problems and touch wood is devoid of adapters so far.

mud

what is it with the mendip hills we have had one night of rain and the trails are running with water. the muddy patches [ 80% of the trail] are bottomless and you never know whether your going to do a vicar of dibley in the next puddle. still havent sorted the christmas ride and there seems to be discent in the ranks, some are talking of going to a trail centre for the day, and i must admit that the thought of all-weather trails is appealing and i havent ridden the wall for sometime and theres a cafe, and a bikewash, and showers, and..... oh well! thats me convinced then. just need to get me bike sorted now, why is it that nothing is ever simple withbike mechanicals? i bought a new fork [marzocchi z1 rc2 eta] so i removed the old one cleaned up the headset, cut the steerer put the 20mm adapters in the hope hub, bolted it all together and hey presto! the brake rotor is 5mm away from the caliper! looks like i need another adapter. im just going online to see what i can find. bye for now.

christmas ride

hello fellow porkers. im currently trying to work out where to take us over the christmas holidays but i cant make my mind up whether to go to dartmoor or exmoor. they are both good areas for wilderness rides but i think dartmoor is probably the more exposed of the two areas, so i think i will just have to plan two rides one for a nice frosty day and one for sideways rain and sleet and going on past experience that wont be a dartmoor ride. what a beautiful weekend it was, did i ride ? did i ek as like! too much work to do at home this week so we will definately have to go out twice this week at night but hey ho thats just as much fun, its just that it seems like forever since i rode anywhere in the daylight! the salisbury winter challenge is on again at the beginning of january and that is always good fun even if the mud is sometimes deeper than your hubs! im still trying to convince Darron to go but he seems to have a strange aversion to mud which is strange for someone who loves riding on the mendips so much, i think the real reason is the terrible cramps i suffered from last time, boy was it bad, cramp in every leg muscle all at once is no fun but that was probably my fault for not eating enough bananas or drinking enough fluids ill try not to let it happen again this year. well i had better get back to planning the rides, so i will sign of now, i will publish the ride details nearer to the holidays when we have sorted who is doing what when.

we are a small group{3} of riders who try to get out 1 or 2 evenings a week and as many weekends as is possible. we ride at the speed of chat and are non competitive apart from the odd pie eating contest. we like to just ride have fun and look at the views. we would encourage anyone who likes to ride in good company to join us whether new to the sport or old hands , we welcome any size of short from xs to xxxl { thatl be me then} and we never leave anyone behind unless they prove to be a right miserable bugger! at the moment we try to get out on monday and thursday/friday nights on the mendips followed by a post ride pint in The Crown at churchill. these days are by no means fixed at the moment so please contact us via the blog or 01934511151 for definate dates and times . Happy trails!
